This should control\ncosts and if possible, resolve disputes quickly,\nideally without the need to apply to a court.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The pre-action procedure applies to:\n\u2022 anyone considering starting a case\n\u2022 anyone named as a respondent if a case is\nstarted, and\n\u2022 their lawyers (if any).<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The Family Law Rules requires prospective\nparties to genuinely try to resolve their dispute\nbefore starting a proceeding in the Court. This\nis called taking \u2018genuine steps\u2019 to resolve the\nissues in dispute.
